Superstition. So, a dozen of the strangest and most unusual superstitions from around the world.
10. In Spain, a bad day - Tuesday 13th
If Monday is traditionally cursed in Russia, then the Spaniards look askance on the second day of the week. There is even a research work on this subject, authored by Marcos Belmonte, which says that a peculiar attitude to Tuesday dates back to 1276, when the Spaniards were beaten during the battle with the Moors at Khativa. At the same time, the battle itself was described as extremely bloody. But they especially don’t like it in Spain, when the 13th falls on Tuesday - on such a day they advise no one to play weddings and start important business. It is believed that all endeavors will be doomed to failure and end in complete failure. Superstitions are such superstitions.
9. In Egypt, owls are considered unlucky animals.
Here you should immediately clarify what moment. Considering unhappy, the Egyptian owls did not win compassion in the eyes of local residents (they say that something is wrong with these birds, it is harder for them than others, so they are unhappy). The word "unlucky" here means the negative that, according to superstitious people, owls can bring to those with whom the bird intersects. In other words, an Egyptian who has seen an owl or heard its hoot can face life difficulties or various kinds of setbacks. At the same time, offending the winged harbinger of misfortune is also not recommended - it will cost more to yourself.
8. In Rwanda, women are taught that goat meat cannot be eaten.
Where? Admit, you also have no idea where Rwanda is located. But in this East African state there are as many people living as in Moscow. On this, however, the similarities end. As for the essence of our question, in Rwanda every girl from childhood is inspired with an idea, the meaning of which is to refuse to eat goat meat. This is explained very nontrivially. Say, if a girl begins to eat goat, she will become the owner of a luxurious head of hair on ... her face. It seems that this method is very effective, since the facial hair of the girls actually causes a bunch of complexes.
7. In some parts of Turkey, it is believed that if you chew gum in the evening, it will turn into rotten fish
This is a truly non-trivial proposition. It is not known how a piece of peppermint gum can magically turn into rotten meat of marine origin, but the fact remains - there are people who seriously say this. Apparently, you need to chew a couple of pillows for the upcoming dream, after which you should put it aside, and in the morning a fragrant fish will be waiting for you in the same place (it might be the smell that will cause your early rise). In general, whatever one may say, it turns out to be some kind of absurdity. You will be in Turkey, be sure to inquire with the locals.
6. In Germany they are afraid to clink glasses with water - it is believed that in this way you wish death to the one with whom you drink
Obviously, in Germany, everything is fine with imagination. Just think about it, in order to implement the insidious plan of the wish of death, you must first find a drinking companion who agrees to whip ordinary water with you. At the same time, the ceremony of absorption of tap water should be accompanied by toast and clinking glasses. Can you imagine that? Here we are. Nevertheless, there is no smoke without fire, and since this superstition was born, then there were some precedents. It is possible that the reason for the birth of a belief was the killing of someone through the use of poisoned water, and the clinking was an unusual gesture by an attacker. However, this is only speculation. Such superstition is hardly documented anywhere.
5. In Brazil, you can’t put the bag on the floor, otherwise the owner of the bag supposedly gets poorer
Well, here everything is quite obvious. A person who puts the bag on the floor and allows himself to gape a little, runs the risk of impoverishing at least the bag itself and its contents - the accessory can simply be taken away. Of course, this was a joke, but it is hardly possible to somehow react differently to this belief. However, in Brazil they really try not to put bags on the floor. They seriously believe that by doing so, you can lose some of your financial savings. In general, the alignment is about the same as in our saying about whistling citizens.
4. In Portugal, do not go back forward - so the devil can remember your steps
And in Portugal, superstitious people refrain from walking backwards. Even if they have gone a little further than required, these people will surely turn around and come to their place, but in no case will not back off. The Portuguese are guided by the fact that in this way the attention of the devil is attracted. Walking with our backs forward, we take steps towards the devil, thereby making contact with him, as a result of which Satan remembers our steps and can calculate our location at any time. Accordingly, in the presence of the devil something wrong and unsuccessful will certainly happen to a person.
3. In Egypt, a very bad omen is to click with scissors without cutting anything with them.
After all, everyone just clicked scissors in childhood, right? It is good that the Egyptians did not see this. The fact is that in this country they are extremely scrupulous about scissors and their use. For example, as indicated in the title, do not indulge in a sharp object, just "cutting" the air. It is also mandatory to close the scissors after working with them - in no case should they remain unclosed. In both cases, if these conditions are not met, a person runs the risk of losing luck, and can also anger unclean spirits who cut themselves on open scissors or fall into them during your pranks.
2. In the Netherlands, singing at the dinner table is considered singing for the devil
This superstition refers to those that can be somehow logically argued. Well, really, at a dinner table you should open your mouth solely for one purpose, and this is clearly not singing. However, situations are known to be different. But even if it was up to you to demonstrate your singing skills at dinner, be sure to wait until the meal is over and leave the table. At least in the Netherlands for sure, since the superstitious people of this country are sure that with their songs you attract the attention of the devil. Of course, no one wants demonism and misfortune to happen in their home.
1. In Nigeria, you can not kiss a child in the lips, otherwise he will grow up stupid
Well, and we considered the crown of paradox of human superstitions to be a belief from Nigeria. However, even here you can find a small clue, unlike the same Turkish chewing gum for the night. Suppose that during a kiss on the child’s lips there is some kind of magical reaction, and subsequently from the mouth of the young man will be heard complete nonsense (contrary, by the way, to other conventional wisdom about the truth and all the same children's mouth). However, the brain is still responsible for not the smartest actions and words, and how it can be touched with a kiss on the lips is incomprehensible. And given the moral attitude of modern society, kissing a child on the lips (especially not his own) is publicly better and not worth it at all.
