10. The Wolf of Wall Street | 2013
The main role in the film was played by the actor Leonardo DiCaprio, which already predicted a great success for the film and at least two Oscar nominations: for the best film and best male role. The film was awarded nominations, but it did not receive a single figurine, losing the award to the film "12 Years of Slavery."

9. Seven | 1995
The film "Seven" is already strong at least in composition: starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman, and the director of the film is the famous David Fincher. However, the film was awarded only a nomination for the best editing, alas, even the film did not receive this figurine.
The story develops around an elderly detective, William Somerset, who plans to retire and leave the bustling city.
But 7 days before his resignation, two events take place: Somerset gets a young and inexperienced partner, and the city is shocked by the news of a new murder. By virtue of experience, William is not mistaken when he suggests that the murder is not an isolated one, which means that you need to throw all your strength into the search for the killer maniac.
8. Midnight in Paris | 2011
In 2012, the film Midnight in Paris was nominated for an Oscar in four positions, however, it received an award only for the best script. In the nomination "Best Film" that year, the film "Artist" won.
The main character of the film is the romantic and dreamer Gil, who always wanted to live in Paris of the 20s. Once Gilu opens the magic of his native city, and he is transferred to the very center of vibrant Paris in the era of his dreams.
Gil is surrounded by his idols: Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Picasso and Dali, as well as meet an incredibly charming girl, Andriana.
7. Flowers purple fields | 1985
The 1985 film starring Whoopi Goldberg and Danny Glover. The film was nominated for 11 Oscar statuettes, but, unfortunately, did not win a single nomination.
This film is about a difficult female fate, about the desire to gain independence and freedom. Many critics rank the film among the best dramas in American cinema.
The plot focuses on the heroine Celia, who wants to find her place in life, but understands that the modern world is closed to her, because the actions of the film take place at the beginning of the 20th century in one of the cities of the southern state.
The viewer understands that Celia will face a difficult fate in the first minutes of meeting the main character, because Cilia is 14, and she is already pregnant. From my own father.
6. American History X | 1998
The picture of 1998, in which the main role was played by Edward Norton. Norton played a skinhead gang leader named Derek Vinyard. Derek is confident in the correctness of his own views, and therefore easily deals with any people who have a skin color other than white.
All skinhead acts are monitored by Danny's younger brother, who sees Derek as an example to follow, and therefore Danny is ready to continue his brother’s business when he is finally locked up in prison. The brothers will only meet after a time when Derek will serve his sentence for the murder of two blacks.
5. Obsession | 2014
The film by Damien Chazella, released on large screens in 2014. The film received three Oscars, but the main nomination for the best film that year went to Birdman.
The film is about the young guy Andrew and his dream of becoming the best drummer. Andrew finds a mentor to fulfill his goal and becomes truly obsessed with this goal: he rehearses to the point of exhaustion, playing melodies on the drum.
The whole story is a struggle. The struggle of the teacher and student with overcoming human capabilities.
4. Three billboards on the border of Ebbing, Missouri | 2017
The film was nominated for an Oscar in 2018, however, the film “Water Form” received the award for the best film.
The main character, Mildred Hayes, is killed by her daughter, but, after several months, the investigation and search for the killer are at an impasse.
Then Mildred decides to attract public attention by buying three large billboards for rent at the entrance to his hometown, with an appeal to the head of police about inaction.
3. Gangs of New York | 2002
The film was released in 2002 and was nominated in 10 Oscar categories, but, unfortunately, it was not awarded. The main roles were played by Leonardo DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz and Daniel Day-Lewis.
The events of the film develop in New York in the early 60s. In those days, authority was earned by force and cruelty, and therefore the whole city consists of bloodthirsty gangs.
In another skirmish, the leader of the gang, Bill the Butcher, kills the leader of another gang - Wellon. Wellon’s son goes to correctional school and grows up with the only thought: to avenge Bill for the death of his father.
2. Arrival | 2016
The film premiered in 2016, and in 2017 the film was nominated in 7 Oscar categories. As a result, “Arrival” won the award only for the best sound editing, and in the category “Best Film” in 2017, “Moonlight” won.
"Arrival" tells of aliens who landed on Earth, but did not disclose their intentions and goals. All countries are ready for an attack, and the whole world, with bated breath, wants to know the intentions of extraterrestrial intelligence.
1. The pianist | 2002
An autobiography film released in 2002. He talks about the Polish pianist, Vladislav Shpilman, and the difficult life of Jews in Nazi-occupied Poland.
This film is about art. About how in terrible moments of his life Vladislav remembered the sounds of the piano and realized that he was not ready to give up.
And this movie is about people. About those who helped Vladislav survive. Not because he is a famous pianist, not because he is a Jew, but because he is just a man. And people should help each other.
